Badenoch Blunder as Tories Open Door to Scrapping Pension Triple Lock

Co-conspirators may remember Badenoch’s suggestion on LBC back in January that the state pension may be means-tested and the triple lock scrapped. It caused a row and had to be officially denied by LOTO’s spokesman: the party had “always protected the triple lock” and Labour was “skewing her words for political gain.” Well, she’s done it again…

Badenoch was on LBC again last night where Iain Dale asked if the Tories were committed to the triple lock. She said:

“So it has always been Conservative policy to have the triple lock. This was our policy over 14 years. I have not changed that. When we change policy, I have a big speech and, you know, like the one I did on net zero, and we announce it. Now we have to look across the board at so many things – taxes, what’s going to happen with pensions, pension legislation, so let’s do the detailed work on that and then say what the policy is going to be. But as of now, no, there’s no change to the triple lock.”

Labour obviously jumped on it and issued a release saying “Badenoch couldn’t be clearer: under her Conservative Party, the door is open when it comes to cutting the state pension.Two days before the local elections, where the majority of voters will be pensioners, it seems bold…
