Baltimore mayor ‘rebuts’ Trump by citing 84 murders … facepalm

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott’s attempt to “rebut” President Donald Trump regarding local crime matters is facing massive mockery.

On Monday, Trump announced the deployment of the National Guard to Washington, D.C., to deal with crime matters. While making the announcement, he also mentioned Baltimore.

“This issue directly impacts the functioning of the federal government and is a threat to America, a threat to our country,” the president said. “We have other cities also that are bad, very bad.”

“You look at Chicago, how bad it is, you look at Los Angeles, how bad it is, other cities that are very bad, New York is a problem, and then you have, of course, Baltimore and Oakland — you don’t even mention that anymore, they’re so far gone,” he added.

His remarks upset Mayor Scott.

“This is the latest effort by the president to distract from the issues he should be focused on — including the roller coaster of the U.S. economy thanks to his policies,” the mayor said in a statement shared to social media.

“When it comes to public safety in Baltimore, he should turn off the right-wing propaganda and look at the facts,” he added.

Oh really?

“Baltimore is the safest it’s been in over 50 years,” he claimed. “Homicides are down 20% this year alone, reaching the lowest level of any year on record,” he continued.

There was just one problem.

According to CBS News, he privately admitted during a “National Night Out event last week” that Baltimore’s murders are still through the roof.

“Baltimore has 84 homicides, which is one too many for me, but it’s still the lowest number we’ve had at this point of the year on record,” he reportedly said.

That’s 84 people mercilessly killed in the span of just eight months!

Critics had a field day with these numbers.

Look:

This isn’t Trump’s first time tearing into Baltimore.

While signing an executive order to begin the dismantling of the Department of Education in March, the president touted the absolutely horrific numbers coming out of Baltimore.

“In Baltimore, 40% of the high schools have zero students who can do basic mathematics, not even the very simplest of mathematics,” he said.

He was right.

“In September 2023, Project Baltimore reported that it had obtained unredacted state test results for every school in Baltimore City through a source within the school system,” according to local station WBFF.

“Those results showed that 40% of city high schools, where the state exam was administered, had no students who scored proficient in math in tests that year,” the reporting continued.

But it gets worse.

Project Baltimore also found a whopping 13 local high schools where not a single student — not one — was proficient in math.
