If the ocean had a hall of fame, this bat ray would be one of the top legends.
We all know how ferocious a hammerhead shark can get. If a sea creature is smaller than them, they will most likely eat it, and when it comes to the kill before the meal, they use their head like a hammer to thrash the opposing animal. And yes, this is why they have their name. They’re aggressive, they’re fast, and there’s not many predators in the ocean that are as scary as them.
On the flip side, bat rays are nothing to sneeze at. The hammerhead shark can hit a top speed of 25 mph, while the bat ray is pretty quick at 13 mph, but even faster when you consider their agility. And it’s not just the ray’s speed that an opponent has to worry about, their tails are vicious too, as they can eliminate a threat with a quick pop of their venomous barbs. So, what happens when the two square off against each other?
Luckily for us, we have a video to tell us that story, and it’s absolutely wild … you can watch it here.

I’m writing this just days before the beginning of my vacation in South Florida, I’m already planning on fishing on day one when we get down there, so this is getting me even more hype for the trip.
A hammerhead shark, a bat ray, I’ll take any of the above.
