President Donald Trump revealed he is “thinking about” a plan that would give the housing market a boost.
Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, the president said a plan for no gains tax on home sales may be under consideration, floating the possibility that a decades-old method of handling real estate profits could change.
“You’ve got no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on social security. How important is it we have no tax on home sales, capital gains to unleash the housing market?” Real America Voice reporter Brian Glenn asked Trump.
Glenn is reportedly in a relationship with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., who thanked the president in a post on X for his support of legislation she introduced, the No Tax on Home Sales Act.
Thank you, President Trump, for supporting my No Tax on Home Sales Act!
My bill would ELIMINATE the federal capital gains tax on the sale of your primary residence.
You worked for it. You should keep it.

“We’re thinking about that,” Trump responded.
“It would also unleash it just by lowering the interest rates,” he added. “If the fed would lower the rates we wouldn’t even have to do that. But we are thinking about no tax on capital gains on houses.”
“You worked for it. You should keep it,” Greene wrote on X.
“Families who work hard, build equity, and sell their homes should not be punished with massive tax bills,” she said in a statement announcing her proposed bill. “The capital gains tax on home sales is an outdated, unfair burden—especially in today’s housing market, where values have skyrocketed. My bill fixes that.”
Had a great meeting this afternoon with Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte to discuss my No Tax on Home Sales Act!

“Currently, the IRS allows an exclusion of up to $250,000 ($500,000 for joint filers) in capital gains from home sales, but those limits haven’t been updated since 1997. As home prices have risen, more middle-class homeowners are being hit with capital gains taxes that were originally intended for wealthy investors,” the press release from Greene read.
Trump’s comments signaling the possibility of eliminating the tax burden were applauded on X.
Yes. Been wanting to see this for a very long time. Time to incentivize home ownership again ! Will also encourage sales and add some much needed housing to market.

Eliminating property taxes would be a lot better, but eliminating any tax is a good thing.
