Ben Bankas Slams Minnesota Comedy Club For Canceling Him Over Renee Good Joke

Ben Bankas slammed the Laugh Camp Comedy Club in St. Paul, Minnesota, for canceling his six sold-out shows after he made a joke about Renee Good.

A viral clip of Bankas mocking the death of Good went viral, and triggered backlash from liberals. Bankas wasted no time firing back with a blunt response in a clip posted to his Instagram. Good was shot during a confrontation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Minneapolis.

“I just found out that my shows were canceled in Minnesota,” he said as the audience booed the decision. “Fuck ’em!”

The initial comedy routine that sparked backlash was shared on Bankas’ Instagram page Jan. 13, and racked up more than 8.9 million views.

“Her last name was Good. That’s what I said after they shot her in the face,” Bankas said in the clip.

Bankas appeared to refer to Good’s wife as a “dog” and call Good a “dumb retarded lesbian.”

Local comics took issue with Bankas’ joke, with 36-year-old Bailey Murphy calling him a “bully with a microphone,” according to the Minnesota Star Tribune. Murphy and others were willing to protest Bankas’ six shows if they went forward.

Club Owner Bill Collins issued a statement to People saying the organization evaluated risks and made the decision to cancel Bankas.

“After discussions with, and concern from, public authorities, legal counsel and staff, combined with heightened threats, increasing media attention and civil disorder, we have determined the risks and related liabilities cannot be overcome,” he told the outlet.

He continued, “We are obligated to place the highest priority on the safety of our guests, staff and talent, and we are left with no option but to cancel.”

Bankas said he is “working on new venue and dates for the fine people of Minnesota” in the caption of his Instagram post.
