Bill Clinton raising eyebrows with message to socialist NYC mayoral candidate

Former President Bill Clinton raised eyebrows with his reaction to New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary.

Clinton posted a congratulatory message to state Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani after the democratic socialist appeared to clinch the nomination on Wednesday. His comments got the attention of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and many others.

“Congratulations @ZohranKMamdani on your victory in yesterday’s primary election and a well-run campaign. I’m wishing you much success in November and beyond as you work to bring New Yorkers together to tackle the city’s challenges and shape a stronger, fairer future,” the 42nd president posted on X.

Clinton reportedly backed former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the primary race, but gave Mamdani a hearty congratulations. If he goes on to win the election, the far-left 33-year-old could become New York City’s first Muslim and Indian American mayor.

President Donald Trump called Mamdani “a 100% Communist Lunatic” in a post on Truth Social. Despite the mayoral candidate’s many far-left policy ideas, other Democrats have joined Clinton in support.

“Zohran’s inspiring campaign showed what grassroots movements can achieve when we fight for bold policies. His focus on government serving the people—not billionaires—will make life more affordable for NYC. I strongly support @ZohranKMamdani. He’ll be a fantastic mayor!” U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., wrote on X.

“I had a lovely call with Zohran and we talked about how he inspired voters to support him because of his laser-like focus on affordability,” New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who chairs the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, told The Independent.

Sen. Bernie Sanders also chimed in.
