Bird Smashes New Zealand Reporter In Face During Segment To Leave Her Bloody Mess

Television reporters are drilled to stay unflappable no matter what, but a journalist in New Zealand just redefined composure when a rogue bird smashed straight into her face during a segment.

Jess Tyson, reporter for the current affairs show “Te Ao with Moana,” was lining up for another take outdoors when a bird decided to go full kamikaze and blasted her face.

The chaotic moment was perfectly captured on video as Tyson recoiled with a “holy sh*t!”

Tyson was questioned by a colleague if she was okay, with the reporter replying “yeah.” Then, her coworker realized something was wrong with her eye.

“Am I?” asked the reporter.

“Yeah,” said her coworker.

“Oh f*ck,” said the reporter.

Tyson, a former Miss World New Zealand, later posted the footage to her Instagram. The clip shows the bird barreling slowly before smacking her face, leaving her with a bloody gash around her right eye.

“POV: Just trying to do your job but nature has other plans,” read text that Tyson added to the clip, also captioning, “The commitment to the job is real! Bird needed [glasses] really!”

Tyson stated she was “happy” that her team managed to capture the moment on video, as they initially thought they had missed it. She added that swearing while on camera “was a first” in her career, per Instagram.
