Victor Davis Hanson appeared on Fox News Thursday and placed much of the blame for the Democrats’ growing struggles on the progressive faction of the party led by Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez emerged as a prominent leader of the Democratic Party’s progressive wing, often referred to as “the Squad.” During an appearance on “Hannity,” Hanson said the Democratic Party’s alliance with its radical progressive wing has trapped them in a lose-lose situation.
“They’re going to be bitten by their own creation, I think. It’s headed nowhere. It’s a lose-lose situation for them. That’s why they’re so angry, and especially because Donald Trump is doing so well. If Donald Trump would just fail, they would calm down. Every time they get angrier and angrier, the better,” Hanson said.
Hanson pointed to what he called uncomfortable parallels between the current state of the Democratic Party and the disarray the Republican Party faced during the rise of the Tea Party in 2010.

“No, they’re riding a tiger, and they can’t keep on it, and they can’t get off. And the tiger is the AOC squad lunatic fringe of their party. They’re violent, dangerous people,” Hanson said when guest host Charlie Hurt asked about the Democratic Party’s internal turmoil. Ocasio-Cortez has repeatedly challenged the Trump administration, including calling for President Donald Trump’s impeachment after his decision to bomb three nuclear sites in Iran. She said that the strikes on Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan were a “grave violation” of his constitutional powers and also said his actions warrant impeachment.
Even fellow Democrats like Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman criticized Ocasio-Cortez’s actions.
“She knows it. I know it. We all know it. That’s not going anywhere. And, you know, he’s been impeached twice, and now he’s still our president,” Fetterman said. “So it’s not going anywhere. I don’t think that’s helpful, and I think if you throw that term around, it actually diminishes the severity of what impeachment is reserved for.”
