‘Black Doctors Directory’ no longer just for black docs after lawsuit

Daily Caller News Foundation

A Philadelphia-based directory geared toward connecting patients with black doctors was forced to change its name and open itself to all races following a lawsuit filed by Do No Harm.

The Black Doctors Directory will now be known as the Community Health and Wellness Directory and will no longer be open solely to black physicians, Do No Harm announced on Monday. WURD Radio, the station hosting the directory, can still consider demonstrating “a commitment to treating patients and communities historically and currently underserved” as a factor for adding physicians to the directory as long as they do not inquire about or consider the doctor’s race, according to court documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“We are grateful that the directory is open to physicians of all races,” Stanley Goldfarb, Chairman of Do No Harm, said in a statement announcing the settlement. “Do No Harm has long opposed ‘racial concordance,’ a thoroughly debunked theory that only breeds suspicion and prejudice. When medical providers prioritize expertise and high-quality care, patients will see better health outcomes.”

The directory is meant to help locals “Find physicians who provide high-quality, respectful, culturally competent care” and is hosted in conjunction with the University of Pennsylvania Medicine and the Consortium of DEI Health Educators, according to the website. Several medical schools have been exposed in recent months for allegedly using race as a factor for admission and requiring diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) training at the expense of medical education. Many medical school accreditors have abandoned their DEI requirements for medical schools following pressure from the Trump administration.
