A pediatrician accused of killing her four-year-old daughter hid from authorities when they raided her home, according to body camera footage police released Wednesday.
Neha Gupta can be seen hiding in a room when the U.S. Marshals arrive at her home, according to the body camera video obtained by WPLG Local 10 News, a Miami-based ABC affiliate. Gupta is soon apprehended by the agents, who then place her in handcuffs.
“Neha Gupta, come to the front door. Do it now. US Marshals. We have a warrant for your arrest. Come to the front door. Do it now,” one of the agents can be heard saying.
Gupta was arrested at her Oklahoma home July 1, according to WPLG.
A press release from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office indicates Gupta allegedly killed her four-year-old daughter, Aria Talathi, while the pair was on vacation in Florida.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that the mother, Pediatrician Dr. Neha Gupta, and her daughter had traveled from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and were staying at a short-term rental. During the overnight hours, a 9-1-1 call was received stating the child was drowning inside the pool. Once officers arrived, they discovered the victim unresponsive inside the pool,” the release states.
According to the same release, Gupta is set to be extradited to Miami-Dade County, where she faces a first-degree murder charge. (RELATED: Man Drowns Fleeing Cops Who Weren’t Even Looking For Him)
While Gupta initially reported her daughter’s death as a drowning, the medical examiner’s findings indicated the child appeared to have been smothered and was likely dead before being placed in the pool, WPLG reported July 2.
Gupta was in an ongoing custody battle with her ex-husband, Dr. Saurabh Talathi. She’d also been suspended from her job at OU Health as of May 30, 2025, according to a statement provided by OU Health and the University of Oklahoma to WPLG.
Gupta was recently denied bond and will be arraigned August 7, KOCO News 5 reported.
