The bone was discovered around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday near Everett Avenue in Westerly, not far from Swift’s well-known residence known as Holiday House, which is referenced in her song The Last Great American Dynasty.
The Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of the remains for further forensic examination.
Local resident Taylor Day, who witnessed the scene as police and medical personnel arrived, spoke to WJAR about the unusual nature of the discovery.

“I think finding a leg is very suspicious,” Day said.
The incident has raised alarm among residents in the typically quiet seaside community, which is known more for its beachfront properties than crime scenes.
The leg bone is the third set of remains to be found in Rhode Island this year, part of a broader pattern that has residents in the region unsettled.
“I’m more aware of my surroundings,” Day added.
“I don’t go [to] places that are kind of dim or where I could be alone. Just trying to stay out in public and be vigilant. My mind immediately went to all the theories that are being thrown around.”
Day was referring to a growing public theory that a serial killer may be operating in the New England area.
According to Fox News, 13 sets of human remains have been discovered since March across three states—Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
Five have been located in both Massachusetts and Connecticut, and three in Rhode Island.
Despite the speculation, law enforcement officials have not linked the cases together.
Authorities have stated that no evidence has been found indicating a serial killer is active in the region.
“From what I’ve seen or heard, first and foremost, not enough is being put out there, so we’ll continue to create that serial killer idea,” former FBI agent Scott Duffey told Fox News.

So far, only one arrest has been made in connection to any of the discovered remains.
Donald Coffel, who was reportedly suffering from cancer, was taken into custody in connection with the death of Suzanne Wormser.
The two were believed to be roommates, and Wormser’s body was found inside a suitcase in March. Coffel died on Friday while in custody.
The Rhode Island State Police have not released further details about the leg bone found in Westerly.
It remains unclear whether the remains are connected to any of the other cases in the tri-state region.
As investigators await forensic analysis, public interest in the case remains high, fueled by social media speculation and unease over the frequency of recent discoveries.
No additional remains were reported in the area as of Friday, and law enforcement has not issued any public safety advisories related to the case.
The Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release more information once identification and cause of death have been determined.
