Tiger Woods appeared stunned when deputies told him he was being arrested after last week’s rollover crash in Florida, according to body camera footage released Thursday that also shows officers finding two pills in his pocket during the roadside investigation.
The footage adds another layer to a case that has moved quickly from a single-vehicle crash into a broader legal and medical story surrounding one of the biggest names in sports. In the video, Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy Tatiana Levenar tells Woods, “I do believe your normal faculties are impaired, and you’re under an unknown substance, so at this time you’re under arrest for DUI.” Woods then responds, “I’m being arrested?”

The crash happened March 27 on a residential road on Jupiter Island, Florida. According to the account Woods gave deputies, he was looking at his phone and changing the radio station when his speeding Land Rover clipped the back of a truck and rolled onto its side. No one was injured in the crash. Woods also told deputies, “I looked down at my phone, and all of a sudden — boom,” as he knelt on a lawn before the arrest.

After Woods was handcuffed, deputies searched his pockets and found two white pills. In the bodycam footage, Woods identified them by saying, “That’s a Norco,” referring to a painkiller that contains acetaminophen and the opioid hydrocodone. Authorities later confirmed Woods was in possession of hydrocodone.
The video also captures part of Woods’ exchange with deputies about what he had taken earlier in the day. Woods told Levenar that he had not consumed alcohol and said he had taken “a few” medications, though some of his words were muted in the released footage while he described them. Authorities have previously said Woods agreed to a Breathalyzer test, which showed no signs of alcohol, but refused a urine test after the crash.
Deputies also documented physical issues that became part of the investigation. During the field sobriety test, they noted that Woods was limping and wearing a compression sock over his right knee. Woods explained that he had undergone seven back surgeries and more than 20 surgeries on his right leg and said his ankle seizes up while he walks. The arrest report also said Woods was hiccuping during questioning and repeatedly moved his head during one of the sobriety tests, forcing deputies to tell him several times to keep it straight.
Levenar wrote in the arrest report, “Based on my observations of Woods, how he performed the exercises and based on my training, knowledge, and experience, I believed that Woods normal faculties were impaired, and he was unable to safely operate the motor vehicle.” That conclusion remains central to the DUI case now moving forward in Florida.
Woods, 50, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to driving under the influence. Later that night, he posted a statement saying he was stepping away indefinitely “to seek treatment and focus on my health.” The release of the bodycam footage comes just as that treatment process has become a major part of the story.
On Thursday, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office also added a charge of careless driving, which is a moving violation under Florida law. Woods was fined $163. Authorities previously said he was arrested after the crash and released on bail eight hours later. Under a change to Florida law last year, refusing an officer’s request to take a breath, blood or urine test became a misdemeanor even for a first offense.
Woods has not played an official event since the 2024 Open Championship and had been working toward a possible return at the Masters. Instead, the attention around him has shifted away from golf and onto the crash, the arrest footage, the added traffic violation and the legal process that now follows. The bodycam video did not change the basic facts already laid out by investigators, but it did provide the clearest public look yet at Woods’ reaction in the moment when the case turned from a roadside inquiry into an arrest.
