Leaders of a yearlong boycott against Target announced Wednesday that they are ending the protest, sparked by the retailer’s decision to scale back its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, multiple news outlets report.
Pastor Jamal Bryant, activist Tamika D. Mallory and former Ohio state Sen. Nina Turner announced the end of the boycott at a press conference in Washington, D.C.
The boycott began after Target announced in January 2025 that it was scaling back some DEI initiatives in light of President Trump’s return to the White House.
Mr. Bryant launched a 40-day Lenten boycott, saying Target withdrew commitments it had made to invest $2 billion in Black-owned businesses after the 2020 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Nekima Levy Armstrong of the Racial Justice Network said during a separate press conference that the boycott is still ongoing and that Target has made no policy reversals.
