The first American Pope ever elected may have some leftist leanings, according to his brother, who claims the pontiff is at odds with his home country’s immigration policies.
President Donald Trump’s aggressive approach to ending and reversing illegal immigration has rubbed some the wrong way, including the new head of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV. Very little time was wasted making his political opinions known to the public, beginning with his take on America’s current immigration system.
Watch:
Pope Leo’s brother speaks out on the subject of immigration and says the new leader of the Catholic Church sees the current U.S. administration on the wrong side of immigration policy.

“I think he sees the United States as headed in the wrong direction in terms of immigration, that this is a total injustice. These are people. It doesn’t matter where they’re born, they are people first,” said 69-year-old John Prevost.

How can we be on the wrong side of immigration when we, as a nation, have an open process for people to come here legally?
Is the brother of the new Pope declaring that the Pope supports people breaking the law? Can the new Pope show commands to violate laws in the Bible?

The US and this administration are not anti-immigration. They are anti-ILLEGAL-immigration.

See this is where everything goes wrong. The Pope is there to spread the teachings of Jesus Christ not tell countries what to do.
You will see this Pope talk about immigration because he can’t blast Trump over abortion like he did Biden

Question for Pope Leo’s brother:
What is the Vatican’s current immigration policy?
Is the Vatican opening up its gates for economic migrants from Latin America?
That’s what I thought, hypocrisy.

Does the Vatican ever talk about trying to fix the conditions of the countries these people are leaving?

In a more relatable moment, Prevost’s reaction to his big brother’s missed calls is likely the most relatable moment coming out of the new Pope election.
Prevost was speaking to Associated Press journalist Obed Lamey when he realized that his brother had been trying to reach him for two hours.
“Oh, he’s called for two hours already,” John said, immediately calling his brother back. Pope Leo was quick to answer his phone for Prevost.
“Well, why don’t you answer your phone?” he chided in a brotherly way.
“Well, first you need to know that you’re on the air right now. This has been going on since 11 o’clock this morning,” Prevost said. “This is the first time I’m hearing that this thing rang. And we are being filmed and recorded.”
“Right now?” Pope Leo asked.
“Right this very minute,” his brother chuckled.
