Bruce Willis’ Wife, Emma Heming Willis, Says She Is Preparing Their Children For His Death

Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis said he has been moved to a separate home amid his battle with dementia in part so she can “prepare” their children for his death.

Emma, 47, made the shocking revelation in her new book “The Unexpected Journey,” slated for release Sept. 9, according to the New York Post. She described the famous actor’s ongoing struggle with frontotemporal dementia and the harsh impact the situation has had on their young children.

“Giving and allowing the girls some space from Bruce also helps prepare them for his death,” Emma wrote, according to the Post.

“I know how dark and jarring that sounds,” Emma wrote, “but that is the harsh reality of the world I must navigate to continue to protect our girls the best way I can.”

Emma has been caring for Willis since the family confirmed his diagnosis in February 2023, but admitted he needs more care than she could provide.

Acting as his primary caregiver has forced Emma to make tough decisions for Willis’ future, including a move to a different residence so the entire family can adjust to the changes in his health. She first said she and her family had decided to have him live separately with professional help in an ABC interview back in August.

Emma admitted there is no “specific timeline” that outlines Willis’ condition, but stated the “average life expectancy” for someone suffering from frontotemporal dementia is “seven to 13 years after the start of symptoms,” according to the Post.

“This disease of FTD is horrendous, but it gives you a little grace to be able to plan and organize your affairs,” she wrote in her book. (RELATED: Bruce Willis’ Wife Shares Rare Video Footage Of The Famous Actor Amid Dementia Battle)

“I think getting used to it being just the three of us in our home will lessen the shock for Mabel and Evelyn when the inevitable comes.”

“Until there is a cure, this disease will always win,” she said.
