Rep. Tim Burchett criticized Senate leadership and Democrats over what he described as a failure to advance key legislation related to border security and funding for the Department of Homeland Security, raising concerns about the impact on national security and federal workers.
Speaking from the Capitol Rotunda, Burchett expressed frustration with recent developments in Congress, particularly regarding the SAVE AMERICA Act and efforts to fund DHS.
“Hey everybody. Tim Burchett, I’m here in the capitol rotunda, and I’m a little ticked off,” he said.

“I’m ticked off at the Senate leadership.”
Burchett accused Senate leaders and Democrats of blocking priorities tied to President Donald Trump’s agenda.
“How they’ve them and the Democrats have decided to thwart the agenda of our president,” he said.
He also pointed to what he described as a lack of urgency in addressing the SAVE AMERICA Act.

“Going home for two weeks, not addressing the SAVE AMERICA Act, which is of the utmost importance we need to get that in,” Burchett said.
The Tennessee lawmaker highlighted that the House had already advanced legislation aimed at funding DHS and supporting key security functions.
“You know, the house has a bill to fund DHS,” he said. He added that the proposal would include measures to strengthen border security and ensure continued pay for federal employees.
“Of course, we will secure the border and pay our TSA agents and fund the men and women who work to protect American citizens,” Burchett said.
Burchett argued that Senate actions have stalled those efforts.
“And the Democrats in the Senate leadership have it’s clear that they just want to derail the Trump agenda, and that’s all they’re up to,” he said.
He suggested that the current situation would not improve until lawmakers return to Washington. “And until we get back here and get back to work that’s not going to change,” Burchett added.
He also criticized the timing of Senate activity, describing late-night votes and adjournments as irresponsible.
“And it’s pretty pathetic to go home at two o’clock in the in the morning, or vote at two o’clock in the morning and kind of leave, well, not kind of, but really do leave the taxpayers hot and dry this great country,” he said.
Burchett said that rank-and-file members were not responsible for the decisions, instead placing blame on leadership.
“And I don’t blame the rank and file members. They have no say so in it,” he said. He further alleged that decisions were made without coordination with House leadership.
“This is clearly a deal that’s cut our speaker the house didn’t even know,” Burchett said.
“They didn’t have the courtesy of making a phone call over there.”
According to Burchett, the outcome reflects broader political goals.
“So it’s clear that they don’t want us in the majority,” he said.
He continued, “They want to they want the status quo to continue.” He also criticized what he described as insufficient support for border enforcement and transportation security.
“They apparently want to open the borders and continue not funding our TSA, because that’s the way their votes have shown,” Burchett said.
Burchett concluded by pledging to continue advocating for the House position.
“So we’ll keep fighting. We’re still here,” he said.
“Thank y’all for sending me here.”
