Jake Retzlaff, currently a quarterback for the BYU Cougars, will be entering the transfer portal as he is expecting a suspension of seven games from the university due to violating the honor code over a sexual assault allegation placed against him.
As a graduate student, Retzlaff has one year of eligibility remaining, and with the QB expecting a suspension, he plans on transferring to and playing at another school for the 2025 college football campaign, according to a report from ESPN. Retzlaff’s expectations for a long suspension from BYU was reported by The Salt Lake Tribune. BYU is operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Taking part in consensual premarital sex violates the honor code of BYU, with the school having a reputation for strictly enforcing their rules that gives instruction to students to “live a chaste and virtuous life,” according to The Tribune.

Retzlaff isn’t a Mormon, however, BYU‘s honor code is meant for all students who attend the school.
Being referenced as Jane Doe A.G., a woman has hit Retzlaff with sexual assault allegations. She filed the lawsuit in May. Stemming from an alleged Nov. 2023 incident that took place in his apartment, Retzlaff is being sued for three accusations: Assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The 22-year-old is not facing criminal charges.
