California is on Fire Again, Gavin Newsom Blames Trump for Not Raking His Forests [WATCH]

As the Madre Fire continues to burn through central California, Governor Gavin Newsom is again directing public criticism at President Donald Trump, accusing the federal government of failing to adequately fund firefighting and land-management operations.

Newsom’s comments come just days after President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) into law, a comprehensive tax and spending package that has drawn criticism from Democrats despite bipartisan passage in Congress.

Newsom has been active on social media since the wildfire broke out, posting updates from both his official and political accounts.

One post, which remains pinned on his official account, reads: “Trump needs to WAKE UP and start funding federal firefighters and land-management teams in these rural communities — instead of giving tax cuts to billionaires. Trump’s incompetence is endangering lives.”

While an earlier post from Newsom’s press office noted that California “remains in lockstep with our federal partners,” the governor’s personal tone has been far more confrontational.

The federal funding debate follows a wave of criticism aimed at California’s own wildfire preparedness.

Newsom’s administration cut $100 million in fire prevention funds from the 2024–2025 state budget, a move that has drawn bipartisan scrutiny amid an intensifying wildfire season.

The reduction in funding included planned fuel-reduction projects and deferred maintenance on critical equipment.

The Madre Fire, which is spreading rapidly through rural parts of central California, is the latest in a series of destructive wildfires to hit the state.

Earlier this year, major fires struck Los Angeles County, prompting evacuation orders and widespread property damage.

At the time, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was criticized for being out of the country during the initial outbreak.

She had traveled to Ghana despite warnings about the fire risk in her city.

Her administration has since faced backlash for delays in rebuilding efforts, including a limited number of reconstruction permits being issued.

In his response to the current wildfire, President Trump has not directly addressed Newsom’s comments.

However, the president did post on social media Friday about separate disaster response efforts, including federal support being deployed to central Texas following severe flooding that struck Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp for girls.

Trump has continued to use federal resources to respond to natural disasters while emphasizing the need for states to manage prevention efforts effectively.

Newsom’s continued criticism of Trump has not gone unnoticed. His wildfire-related posts have generated tens of thousands of replies, with some users pointing out California’s own budgeting decisions on fire prevention.

The political tension also follows other recent controversies involving Newsom and Los Angeles city leadership.

Newsom recently filed a defamation lawsuit against Fox News over coverage related to private calls he had with President Trump during the unrest.

As the Madre Fire continues to burn, containment efforts remain ongoing with support from state and federal agencies.

No fatalities have been reported at this time, but several communities remain under evacuation orders.

Officials have yet to confirm the total acreage burned, and the full cost of response and recovery efforts is still being assessed.
