Actor Robert De Niro has called on Americans to participate in a series of planned nationwide protests opposing President Donald Trump, urging continued demonstrations and political action ahead of upcoming elections.
De Niro, 82, made the remarks in connection with the “No Kings” protests, a coordinated effort expected to take place across the country on March 28.
Organizers say the demonstrations will include events in all 50 states and every U.S. congressional district.

In a message shared on social media, De Niro referred to President Trump as a “mentally ill tyrant” and compared him to “mad” King George III, while encouraging supporters to join the demonstrations and remain active in opposition efforts.
Organizers of the “No Kings” initiative say the scale of the planned protests could be unprecedented.

Ezra Levin, co-executive director of Indivisible, one of the groups involved in organizing the demonstrations, described the expected turnout and geographic reach.
“This will be the largest protest in American history,” Levin told Fast Company.
“We will be in every single congressional district from the bluest blue to the reddest red.”
According to organizers, more than 3,000 community events have already been scheduled as part of the coordinated effort.
De Niro has been a vocal critic of President Trump and has made multiple public statements opposing him in recent months.
During an appearance on the podcast “The Best People With Nicolle Wallace,” De Niro urged Americans to take action.
“It’s up to us to get rid of him,” De Niro said.
He also commented on his view of the current political climate and the direction of the country.
“The story is our country, and Trump is destroying it, and who knows what his reasons are, but it’s sick, it’s f**ked up,” De Niro said.
In additional remarks, De Niro called for collective action among those who oppose the president.
“We have to save the country,” De Niro said.
He further stated, “Trump is the enemy of this country,” and added, “Let’s not kid ourselves. It’s that simple. Everybody has to stick together to get them out and get back on track.”
De Niro also emphasized continued activism as part of the broader effort.
“People have to resist, resist, resist, resist, resist. That’s the only way,” he said.
The protests are scheduled to take place months before the November 3 election, which organizers and participants have described as a key point for political engagement.
De Niro referenced the election as the “ultimate goal” in his call for participation.
The “No Kings” demonstrations are being promoted as a coordinated national effort, with organizers emphasizing widespread participation across diverse regions of the country.
The planned events reflect ongoing political divisions and activism surrounding the current administration, with public figures and advocacy groups continuing to organize efforts tied to policy disagreements and electoral outcomes.
As preparations continue for the March 28 demonstrations, organizers have indicated that turnout and participation will be central to the impact of the events, while political figures and commentators on both sides continue to respond to the calls for protest and engagement.
