Parents in Canada are reportedly up in arms over a planned field trip to New York City, but not for the reasons you’d think.
When Americans think of visiting New York City, they may be put off by what they’ve read in the media regarding homelessness, drug use, crime rates, etc. A particularly politically-minded person may consider the Democratic leadership of the city, including the current mayoral race in which an unabashed socialist appears to be absolutely smashing it in the polls.
But if you live in Canada, you have a different group of fears altogether:
My daughter’s class is going on a school trip to NYC. Many of the parents are incredibly upset that the school would visit the United States where there is a “daily genocide of women, trans people, and people of color.” The parents are not upset at what is happening in Canada…

“My daughter’s class is going on a school trip to NYC. Many of the parents are incredibly upset that the school would visit the United States where there is a “daily genocide of women, trans people, and people of color.” The parents are not upset at what is happening in Canada or that [Zohran Mamdani] is going to become mayor of NYC. They are terrified for their children’s safety because of [President Donald Trump]. I have spent my entire academic career studying human behavior and human decision making, and yet I’m astounded by this level of suicidal stupidity,” wrote Evolutionary Behavioral Scientist Gad Saad in an X post.
Look, NYC might not be in the best condition, but there’s certainly no “daily genocide” happening, despite whatever loony leftist propaganda is being passed around in Canada.
X users were pretty quick to jump on the post:

“I was just in NYC. I enjoyed my time [with] many women – some in my own family and some business colleagues; some people of color (my children, who live there); and I went to a comedy show at a small club and there were gays and ‘trans’ in attendance and performing. I saw no dead bodies. None of these folks appeared to feel at risk of being genocided. Tell them it will be ok,” wrote Jennifer Sey, founder of XX-XY Athletics.
None of it makes sense

In the last 10 years, we appear to have proven that if you tell people the same thing over and over again, regardless of whether it’s true or false, people will both believe and trust it — it’s a significant modern societal challenge
