Charlotte train stabbing suspect offered shocking admission following brutal murder

Daily Caller News Foundation

The man accused of murdering Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska appeared to admit to doing so in a video released Friday by the Charlotte transit authority.

Authorities say Zarutska, who worked at an area pizza restaurant, was stabbed to death Aug. 22 on a Charlotte light rail train by DeCarlos Brown, a man with a lengthy criminal history. The video, posted on WBTV’s YouTube account, shows events before and after the attack, but does not show Zarutska being stabbed.

“I got that white girl, I got that white girl,” Brown said as other passengers went to the aid of Zarutska, while waiting for the train to make a stop so he could exit.

The incident went viral on social media after authorities released the video. Tesla CEO Elon Musk made multiple posts and also reposted other users on X who discussed the killing. Conservatives on social media also commented about the absence of coverage from corporate media, contrasting that to how many corporate media outlets covered the death of Jordan Neely, who died after being restrained by 24-year-old Daniel Penny, a Marine Corps veteran, May 1, 2023.

President Donald Trump and Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy have also commented on the video.

“I have seen the horrific video of a beautiful, young Ukrainian refugee, who came to America to escape the vicious War in Ukraine, and was innocently riding the Metro in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was brutally ambushed by a mentally deranged lunatic,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “The perpetrator was a well known career criminal, who had been previously arrested and released on CASHLESS BAIL in January, a total of 14 TIMES. What the hell was he doing riding the train, and walking the streets?”

Trump went on to say that blood was seen “dripping from the killer’s knife” and that Democrats like former Gov. Roy Cooper, who is running for Senate, had “her blood” on their hands.

“This monster had a track record longer than a CVS receipt, including prison time for robbery with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering, and larceny,” Duffy posted. “By failing to properly punish him, Charlotte failed Iryna Zarutska and North Carolinians. This is totally unacceptable! Safety needs to be the top priority of elected officials. Citizens don’t want federal dollars going to public transportation that local leaders refuse to keep safe!”
