Chris Cillizza says Elon hater defaced his Tesla by slapping on ‘Musk is a nazi’ sticker

Daily Caller News Foundation

NewsNation political contributor Chris Cillizza on Wednesday said an Elon Musk critic defaced his Tesla by taping a derogatory message on the car while at a youth soccer tournament.

Musk is the CEO of Tesla, whose cars have faced vandalism that spiked due to his involvement with President Donald Trump’s administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Cillizza said on his “So What” Substack that while he was in Richmond, Virginia, someone stuck a sign that read, “Musk is a Nazi” to his vehicle, which he displayed to his viewers.

“So over the weekend I was in Richmond, Virginia, and at a soccer tournament for my son. And we parked my car, which is a Tesla, and we went and watched the game. And when he and I came back, there was something attached to it that was not there when we had left,” Cillizza asserted. “It was this. Someone had taped a sign — ‘Musk is a Nazi’ — to my car. Now they obviously had pre-written this or they have a bunch of them, right? But ‘Musk is a Nazi’ taped to my car. So this is the first time I’ve experienced the sort of politics of Elon Musk and Tesla.”

He later added that he found the incident unfortunate and that he disagreed with the allegation that Musk is a Nazi.

“We are getting to a point where everything is a political statement. And I guess my take is I don’t really think that needs to be the case. Maybe I’m just not an activist. Maybe some people on here will say I’m not principled enough, but I’m not going to sell my Tesla or slap a sticker on it so that I can virtue signal that, ‘Oh well, I bought this but I really hate Elon Musk.’ I don’t really hate Elon Musk,” Cillizza said. “I mean, yeah, a lot of things he says I disagree with, but like, he makes a good car. And again, I didn’t buy the car to send a message to anyone. I bought the car ’cause I thought it was cool and I liked it and, you know, I thought electric vehicles were an interesting thing.”

“I guess my point here is I just wish this didn’t have to happen. But it’s fine. I mean, I guess if you feel strongly enough. But, like, Elon Musk isn’t a Nazi. And I’m not sure that we have to take — I mean, this person obviously never met me,” he continued. “I don’t know who did it. But I’m not sure that we have to be that person. In fact, I think doing that kind of stuff makes this country less likely to understand our common humanity, not more likely to understand our common humanity. Which is what I’m always solving for.”

Democrats accused Musk of making a Nazi salute during the inaugural parade at the Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C. Musk has repeatedly denied making a Nazi salute as he extended his arm as he told the audience that his heart “goes out to [them].”

The Tesla CEO has also been a staunch defender of the Jewish people.

At least nine alleged perpetrators were caught on video keying, writing graffiti or otherwise defacing Tesla vehicles in parking lots throughout the U.S. in the month of March alone. Moreover, a former federal bureaucrat and an executive for a green nonprofit were arrested and charged for allegedly vandalizing Teslas in Washington, D.C., around the Capitol Hill neighborhood, The Washington Post reported in April.
