NewsNation host Chris Cuomo condemned the political left on “The Chris Cuomo Project” Thursday for arguing they are less violent than the right in the immediate aftermath of the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk.
Multiple Democrats blamed Republicans for a rise in political violence following Kirk’s assassination on Sept. 10. Cuomo, on his podcast, accused the left of making the inflammatory claim about who is “more violent” as “clickbait.”

“This game of the battle to the bottom of which side is worse — you guys are literally debating who’s more violent, the right or the left. ‘There is no statistical evidence that the left is anywhere near as violent in politics. The ADL [Anti-Defamation League], everybody’ — that’s your argument?” Cuomo said. “Right after Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck by a guy who thought he was standing up for his trans lover? He just shot him in the neck.”
“You’re going to make the case that it’s all about the right? How stupid do you have to be? It’s not about stupidity. It’s about convenience,” he continued. “You’re so desperate for clickbait. You’re so desperate to be relevant, to be in the mix, that you say whatever is going to get you the clicks. Change the game. Change the game.”
Cuomo appeared to be saying people on the left are citing the ADL, which has claimed for consecutive years that “right-wing extremists have been connected to all identified extremist-related killings.”
Kirk’s suspected assassin, Tyler Robinson, was in a relationship with a trans-identifying male named Lance Twiggs, whom he later seemed to confess to over text message. Robinson’s parents told authorities that their son had become “more pro-gay and trans-rights oriented” in recent years, Utah County Attorney Jeffrey Gray asserted on Sept. 16.
Robinson also texted Twiggs that he had “had enough of [Kirk’s] hatred.” After informing Twiggs of his intention to turn himself in, he added, “You are all I worry about, love.”
Robinson faces charges of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and committing a violent offense in the presence of a child. Gray said Robinson targeted the TPUSA founder based on “political expression” and that the targeting was an “aggravating factor” that could cause increased penalties.
Even The Atlantic acknowledged on Tuesday that left-wing violence has spiraled out of control since President Donald Trump entered the political realm in 2016.
The outlet compiled a data set of 750 attacks between Jan. 1, 1994, and July 4, 2025, and found that left-wing terror attacks were presently outnumbering violence from the political right. Far-left extremists accounted for five terrorist attacks or attempted attacks by July 4, which put 2025 on pace to be the most violent year for the political left in over 30 years.
