Chris Cuomo Guest Whines About Feds’ ‘Rushed And Reactive Response’ To Deport Colorado Terror Suspect’s Family

American blogger and analyst Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib claimed Tuesday on “Cuomo” that he believes deporting the family of Colorado terrorist suspect Mohamed Sabry Soliman could be a “rushed” and “reactive” response.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Sunday that Soliman, a 45-year-old foreign national, had been arrested by officials in connection to a terrorist attack in Boulder, Colo. With Soliman’s wife and five children later confirmed to have also been arrested Tuesday, NewsNation host Chris Cuomo asked Alkhatib for his response.

“Well, let me start by just expressing my sympathies to the victims and sending them well wishes for a speedy recovery and expressing outrage for this heinous crime by this individual, as I have on repeated occasions,” Alkhatib said.

“I think, unfortunately, this may be a case of a rushed and a reactive response to kind of give the impression that we’re doing something about these radical elements within our society,” Alkhatib added. “I very much so believe that the United States, especially toward non-citizens, ultimately has the legal discretion to decide who gets to stay and who gets to leave.”

During an event supporting hostages taken during the Oct. 7, 2023 attack by Hamas, six victims were taken to a hospital after Soliman allegedly used a makeshift flamethrower and Molotov cocktails against the group. Officials told reporters during a press conference that witnesses heard the suspect “yell free Palestine” during the attack. By Sunday evening, FBI officials arrested the 45-year-old, with a DHS spokesperson telling the Daily Caller News Foundation that the foreign national had been in the U.S. illegally.

According to officials, Soliman entered the country under the Biden administration in August 2022 on a B2 visa. While the 45-year-old suspect filed for asylum by September 2022, his visa ultimately expired by February 2023.

Alkhatib went on to state how he came to the U.S. from Gaza on an F-1 student visa, ultimately applying for and receiving political asylum.

“My point is, I wonder if there is a rush to get this family out, and, in so doing, there might be, a just kind of a lack of empathy for the ordeal that they’re going through, assuming that they had no foreknowledge or prior knowledge of what this man was about to do,” Alkhatib said. “And, B, that their life is going to be turned upside down.”

“They haven’t been in Egypt, it sounds like, for many years. Kuwait isn’t going to take them back,” Alkhatib said. “They’re going back, likely, to Egypt, which is likely their passport of origin. They probably have no remaining roots there. Maybe they have some family members there.”

DHS senior sources told Fox News on Tuesday that Soliman’s family had been taken into federal custody, with their visas revoked. National correspondent for the outlet Bill Melugin posted to X and said the family is reportedly being processed for expedited removal, allowing for rapid deportation without going before an immigration court or judge.

“So, most importantly, I want to say that there might be a missed opportunity to gather intelligence and to understand the picture around this man’s life and the community and to really get where did he go wrong? How did the radicalization happen? So I worry that this may be a legal decision but a very rushed one and a potentially inhumane one,” Alkhatib added.

The Colorado attack comes fewer than two weeks after two Israeli embassy staffers, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, were shot and killed near the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington D.C.
