A Christian rally hosted by MAYDAY USA at Cal Anderson Park in Seattle on Saturday was disrupted when Antifa-aligned activists clashed with attendees, leading to 23 arrests and one police officer injured.
The event, part of the “#DontMessWithOurKids” campaign, was organized to promote traditional family values and religious freedom.
The rally began around 2 p.m. and included worship, music, and speeches. According to Seattle Police, tensions began escalating as early as 1:30 p.m., when counter-protesters began throwing objects at rally participants.

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell issued a statement after the event, criticizing the rally organizers rather than the violence from counter-protesters.
“Today’s far-right rally was held here for this very reason — to provoke a reaction by promoting beliefs that are inherently opposed to our city’s values in the heart of Seattle’s most prominent LGBTQ+ neighborhood,” Harrell said.
Harrell also called for a review of how permitted events are assigned locations and claimed that anarchists “infiltrated” the counter-protest and sparked the violence.
He stated that MAYDAY USA shut down the event early at the city’s request.

The mayor’s comments drew criticism from religious leaders and conservative groups who accused him of blaming peaceful Christians while refusing to hold violent agitators accountable.
Pastor Russell Johnson of Pursuit Church, which participated in the rally, responded strongly.
“The Mayor of Seattle owes Christians in WA State an apology for his bigoted remarks after folks who were holding a peaceful worship event… were violently assaulted,” Johnson said.
“Twenty-three Antifa thugs were arrested. Cops were hospitalized. Church people were assaulted. And the mayor has the audacity to blame Christians for the violence.”
Johnson also criticized Harrell’s leadership and noted the mayor’s personal and political controversies, citing rising crime rates and administrative turnover in the police department.

Meanwhile, SUPER UW, a University of Washington group with ties to pro-Hamas activism, requested bail funds for arrested Antifa members.
The group has not been publicly condemned by Harrell, despite its involvement in an occupation at UW’s engineering building that caused over $1 million in damage earlier this month.
