Chuck Schumer Hilariously Mocked for Blaming Donald Trump After Mexican Navy Bridge Collision [WATCH]

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer faced widespread backlash over the weekend after suggesting that former President Donald Trump and a supposed Coast Guard hiring freeze were partially responsible for a fatal accident involving a Mexican Navy ship and the Brooklyn Bridge, as reported by Fox News.

The incident occurred when the Mexican Navy training ship Cuauhtémoc, a 150-foot-tall vessel, reportedly experienced a mechanical malfunction that caused its masts to strike the Brooklyn Bridge. Two cadets aboard the ship were killed in the collision.

Following the accident, Schumer released a statement in which he implied that the Trump administration’s past policies, including a freeze on Department of Homeland Security (DHS) hiring during his presidency, could have played a role in the tragedy.

“After being fully briefed on last night’s Brooklyn Bridge accident, one thing is predominantly clear: there are more questions than answers as it relates to exactly how this accident occurred,” Schumer stated.

He went on to discuss the importance of bridge safety and the role of the U.S. Coast Guard in preventing emergencies, citing risks to national security and commerce.

“It is unacceptable that the Trump administration is potentially jeopardizing our national and economic security – as well as American lives,” Schumer added, specifically referencing the Coast Guard’s Vessel Traffic Services system and how it could have been impacted by a hiring freeze allegedly implemented during Trump’s tenure.

Schumer’s comments prompted an immediate response from DHS and critics online.

“Minority Leader Schumer’s accusations that a hiring freeze led to the U.S. Coast Guard’s Vessel Traffic Services not being adequately staffed are FALSE,” the DHS official account posted on X.

“The US Coast Guard has been fully supported and been exempt from hiring freezes. Additionally, this incident had nothing to do with Vessel Traffic Services.”

The agency clarified that when a vessel loses propulsion in a high-current area, the priority becomes using onboard systems and nearby tugboats to prevent a collision.

“We encourage Minority Leader Schumer to get his facts straight before he misleads the American people,” the post concluded.

Conservatives quickly weighed in on social media.

“Mexican vessel: Loses control, hits bridge. Schumer: I’ll never forgive Drumpf for this!” wrote Fox News contributor Guy Benson.

“Schumer is a stupid, evil man,” posted radio and TV host Mark Levin.

“Elon and Trump Derangement Syndrome is out of control,” commented Steve Guest, a conservative communications strategist.

Leo Terrell, senior counsel to the Trump administration’s Assistant Attorney General, simply wrote, “He is an idiot.”

A Coast Guard spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that the New York Vessel Traffic Service was “fully functional during the incident, operating in accordance with established procedures.”

As of Monday, Schumer’s office has not issued a follow-up statement.
