Former “Meet The Press” moderator Chuck Todd on “The Chuck ToddCast” Monday made bold assertions about President Donald Trump’s health after previously defending journalists for not making similar claims about former President Joe Biden.
Todd said on a June episode of his podcast that the “most difficult thing to report out on a politician is health” and that it was “easy to, frankly, get shamed out of doing it.” Yet on his Monday episode, he had no issue concluding that Trump has “clearly got some health issues” after attacking the president and his allies for scrutinizing the health of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Biden.

“These health rumors, he only has himself to blame. And the entire Trump world only has themselves to blame for this, right? They live in this world of conspiracy and misinformation,” Todd said. “They manufactured all sorts of garbage, whether it’s about Hillary Clinton’s health in 2016, Joe Biden’s health in 2020 or 2024. My goodness, they’ve started congressional hearings based on rumors they created and manufactured on all things having to do with Biden and this autopen and all this nonsense.”
“So, guess what? Good for the goose, good for the gander. All weekend long: Where’s Donald Trump? How come we’re not seeing him? Bottom line is he’s clearly got some health issues,” he continued. “We know this administration is not forthcoming pretty much about anything, but times ten when it comes to Trump’s personal health.”
During Trump’s second term, images have circulated online of his swollen legs and bruised hand. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters in July that Trump underwent physical examinations and has chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), but is in good health.
“The lack of transparency on his health — what is going on? Why are both of his hands bruised?” Todd asked. “He’s likely taking some medication that is creating what are potentially visible signs of bruising or the appearance of bruising, which is just a side effect of a drug he may be taking in order to minimize the possibility of a stroke or a heart attack. But there’s clearly some health issues. We’ve seen the ankles. We’ve seen these pictures. Something is afoot.”
Todd in April also defended legacy media on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” for its soft coverage of Biden’s age-related issues.
“I sit here, and I’ll defend a little bit of this in that I would argue the reason people were able to come to their own conclusion on Joe Biden is because of the media coverage,” Todd said. “Look, we were subtle. ‘He’s using the back staircase. He’s not using the front staircase.’ ‘Hey, he’s not doing any interviews.’ So there was this reluctance to draw the conclusion, to say, ‘Is he not doing this?’ And that I agree with. That was held back — held back a lot.”
Voters and Republicans were concerned about Biden’s mental fitness for years before his disastrous June 2024 debate against Trump, but legacy media outlets repeatedly dismissed the validity of their concerns.
