CNN crime reporter defends arrest of Milwaukee judge

Democrats and their winged monkeys in the media may have a problem in trying to portray a Wisconsin judge who was arrested by the FBI for obstructing ICE by protecting a criminal illegal alien as a victim, there is a precedent.

“They have a case,” explained CNN crime reporter Katelyn Polantz during the network’s coverage of Friday’s arrest of Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan who is facing charges for shielding violent Mexican national Eduardo Flores-Ruiz from agents at the Milwaukee County Courthouse last Friday.

Polantz responded to “The Arena” host Kasie Hunt’s remarks that Judge Dugan is in a “difficult position” and was asked about what her plans may be to “fight back” as well as what the next moves from the Trump administration could be.

“Well, they have a case, and that case is gonna go on in court,” Polantz said. “She hasn’t entered a pleading yet, she was released after her appearance.”

But one of the things that I think should really be highlighted here is not, the case against the judge, it’s unusual, but it’s not unprecedented,” she continued. “There has been a case like this before in 2019 during the first Trump administration, charging a judge in Massachusetts who was accused of something very similar, trying to usher someone out of that courtroom as ICE officials were waiting for that defendant.”

“In that case, that ended up being resolved, Polantz added. “Those charges were dropped in the Biden administration against that judge in Massachusetts, but she ended up cutting a deal, so it was a legitimate case there as well.”

The case that the CNN crime correspondent was referring to was that of Judge Shelley Richmond Joseph who along with a court officer was indicted for helping an illegal alien who had been arrested on narcotics charges dodge ICE in an April 2018 incident at a Newton, Mass. courthouse, stalling agents until he could slip out a back door.

“Judge Dugan allegedly confronted and ordered federal agents to leave the courthouse. After being made aware of a valid immigration arrest warrant, Judge Dugan told agents that they needed a judicial warrant and demanded that they go to the Chief Judge’s office. Once the agents were no longer in the vicinity of her courtroom, Judge Dugan allegedly elected not to conduct a hearing on Flores-Ruiz’s criminal case, despite the fact that victims of his offense were present, and instead personally escorted Flores-Ruiz and his attorney through a restricted ‘jury door’ exit not typically used by defendants or attorneys,” the DOJ said in a press release.

“This doorway led to a non-public hallway through which Flores-Ruiz and his attorney exited her courtroom. According to the affidavit, Judge Dugan’s actions directly resulted in Flores-Ruiz temporarily avoiding federal custody,” the statement read.

Like Dugan, Joseph was charged with obstruction although the charges were later dismissed by disgraced former President Joe Biden’s administration in 2022. But now that the Justice Department is out of the hands of partisan bad actors, there is nobody who is above the law, including those who are supposed to preside over it.

“No one’s above the laws in this country,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said during a Friday appearance on Fox News. “And if you are destroying evidence, if you’re obstructing justice, when you have victims sitting in a courtroom of domestic violence and you’re escorting a criminal defendant out a back door, it will not be tolerated, and it is a crime in the United States of America. Doesn’t matter who you are, you’re going to be prosecuted.”
