Colombian President Gustavo Petro Casually Threatens To ‘Get Rid Of Trump’

Colombian President Gustavo Petro casually suggested on Monday that it is time to “get rid” of President Donald Trump.

In response to Petro accusing the U.S. of “murder” over the Sept. 15 attack of a suspected drug boat, Trump threatened on Sunday to close the “killing fields” in Colombia and slash U.S. subsidies to the country. Following Trump’s threats, Petro told Univision that Trump must be changed “in various ways,” which would include the possibility of getting rid of him if he fails to change.

“Humanity has a first off-ramp, and it is to change Trump in various ways,” Petro said. “The easiest way may be through Trump himself, the easiest. If not, get rid of Trump.” (RELATED: Trump Blasts Colombia’s ‘Illegal Drug Leader’ Gustavo Petro, Yanks Foreign Aid After Criticism Of Boat Strikes)

Trump and Petro have clashed with each other since the Colombian president blocked two U.S. military flights carrying deported illegal immigrants from landing in his country in January. Trump then threatened to impose a 25% tariff on Colombian imports, warning it could be increased to 50% within a week.

In response to the threat, Petro agreed to accept the deportation flights under certain conditions, and the tariffs were not implemented.

Trump accused Petro on Sunday of being an “illegal drug dealer” in response to the Sept. 15 strike on the three-person vessel believed to be carrying drugs to the U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed on Sunday that the vessel is suspected to be associated with Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN), a Colombian rebel group.

On Truth Social, Trump stated on Sunday that Petro encourages the mass production of illegal drugs that causes “death, destruction and havoc” in the U.S.

“President Gustavo Petro, of Colombia, is an illegal drug leader strongly encouraging the massive production of drugs, in big and small fields, all over Colombia … Petro, a low rated and very unpopular leader, with a fresh mouth toward America, better close up these killing fields immediately, or the United States will close them up for him, and it won’t be done nicely,” Trump said.

The U.S. military has conducted multiple strikes against vessels suspected of being tied to designated terrorist organizations and of carrying illegal drugs. The attacks have taken place since Sept. 2, when a boat carrying 11 members of the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) was sunk.
