The festive killjoys in the Commons HR department have been busy sucking the cheer out of Christmas. Ahead of recess, they’ve circulated solemn guidance to MPs hosting Christmas “End of Year” parties. They’ve even knocked up a template invitation letter ensuring guests arrive thoroughly warned…
Among the “important stuff” that must be spelled out:
- You should consume alcohol only in moderation. [The provision of alcoholic drinks by the organisation is not an excuse to drink excessively.]
- You should be aware that our equality, diversity and inclusion policy and anti-bullying and anti-harassment policy continue to apply during the event. In accordance with these policies, discrimination, bullying or harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.
- You should treat others with respect during the events. Violence such as fighting, aggressive behaviour, verbal abuse or the use of inappropriate language, whether this is towards a colleague, an invited guest or any other third party is unacceptable.
- You must not behave in a way that could cause reputational damage to the organisation.
Bah humbug…
