Constituents Say AOC Is Absent and Out of Touch with Her Own District’s Needs

Residents in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s New York congressional district are voicing growing frustration over what they describe as a lack of local engagement from their representative, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

Constituents from both the Bronx and Queens say the congresswoman has shifted her focus to national politics while neglecting the day-to-day concerns of the people she was elected to serve.

Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat who first gained national attention in 2018, has recently been touring the country with Sen. Bernie Sanders as part of their “Fight Oligarchy” campaign.

However, back in New York’s 14th Congressional District, residents are questioning her priorities.

“She’s too busy jet-setting around on private jets,” said Lauro Vazquez of Woodside, Queens. “This woman has done nothing for the community she was once again elected to serve.”

The New York Post reported that both of Ocasio-Cortez’s district offices — located in the Bronx and Queens — have limited accessibility.

One is only open a single weekday, while the other is closed on Fridays. Calls to the offices often go unanswered, and constituents are asked to schedule appointments in advance.

Residents say these restrictions create serious barriers for people trying to address local concerns.

Town halls, which were once a regular monthly event, have become increasingly rare.

According to constituents, when they do occur, they often provide no opportunity for questions, and in some cases, Ocasio-Cortez only participates by phone rather than appearing in person.

The sentiment among many local voters is that their congresswoman has shifted her attention to a broader political stage and is no longer focused on local issues like public safety, traffic congestion, and job opportunities.

“She’s not interested in the mundane things that matter to us,” Vazquez said, summarizing what he believes many in the district feel.

Ocasio-Cortez’s office has not responded to specific complaints about her availability or local engagement. However, political observers note that this type of criticism isn’t new.

Critics have long said Ocasio-Cortez models her political career more after national figures like Elizabeth Warren — emphasizing national issues and policy platforms over hands-on district work.

With the November elections approaching, the growing chorus of dissatisfaction may become a factor.

For now, constituents say they feel ignored by a representative they believe is more interested in building her national profile than representing their interests at home.
