Less than 24 hours after Starmer’s big intervention warning the UK risks becoming an “island of strangers” without tougher immigration controls, his own home secretary has refused to back him up. Yvette Cooper was pressed by LBC’s Nick Ferrari on whether she believed we are living in an island of strangers. After stumbling through her response, she ultimately rejected the idea:
“No, I think we’re a country where everybody, I think, wants to see a strong country where we train people in the UK, but also to see net migration comes down, I think that makes sense.”
