A 21-year-old New Jersey man is facing battery charges following a mid-flight altercation that ended with him being restrained and arrested upon arrival in Florida.
The incident occurred on a Frontier Airlines flight from Philadelphia to Miami-Dade International Airport, when Ishaan Sharma, of Newark, allegedly assaulted a fellow passenger without provocation. Authorities said the attack took place shortly before landing.
The victim, identified as Keanu Evans, told local outlet WSVN that Sharma had been behaving erratically during the flight.

According to Evans, Sharma, who was seated one row ahead of him, was mumbling incoherently, making dark statements, and issuing threats in a disturbing tone.
“He was doing some, like, dark laugh like, ‘ha ha ha ha ha,’” Evans told WSVN.
“And he was saying things like, ‘you punt, mortal man, if you challenge me, it will result in your death.’”

The situation escalated after Evans pressed the overhead assistance button to notify flight attendants. Evans said this action appeared to agitate Sharma, who then allegedly stood up and physically attacked him.
Video captured by passengers and shared on social media shows Sharma standing over Evans and grabbing him by the throat.
In response, Evans fought back, punching Sharma multiple times as passengers nearby shouted for him to stop.
“Let him go! Stop, let him go,” other passengers can be heard yelling during the confrontation.

Photos taken after the incident show Sharma with a swollen black eye and a cut above his left eyebrow.
Evans suffered minor facial scratches during the struggle.
“It makes me feel bad because I don’t want people to get the wrong idea about who I am as a person,” Evans said following the flight.
Sharma was taken into custody by authorities upon arrival in Miami-Dade County. The Miami-Dade Police Department confirmed that Sharma was booked and charged with battery.
Defense attorneys representing Sharma offered a different explanation for his behavior during the flight. Attorney Renee Gordon, speaking to the Daily Mail, claimed her client was engaged in a religious practice at the time of the incident.
“My client is from a religion where he was meditating,” Gordon said. “Unfortunately, the passenger behind him did not like that.”
Despite that claim, Evans maintains that Sharma’s actions were aggressive and unprovoked, and that he acted only in self-defense after being physically assaulted.
No other injuries or arrests were reported in connection to the incident.
The case is expected to proceed through the Miami-Dade County court system.
