The Daily Caller put down the dark forces of judicial supremacy in a Think Tank Softball League contest last Wednesday, besting the Federalist Society by a score of 14-5.
The Callers got things started early at the Undisclosed Park in Arlington, VA, putting up a 6-spot to answer a lone run from the JDs in the bottom of the first. Visiting Sporting Fellow Will Mitola, Visiting Sporting Fellow Jonah Wendt and Intern Kenny (making his season debut) strung together three consecutive doubles, and the scoring was capped off by a homerun from Audio Wizard Corey Inganamort.
“The key to slow pitch softball is pitching, fielding, and two-run homers,” Inganamort said postgame. “I swung hard just in case I hit it. Last week I pulled my back. This week I pulled softballs right over the weakest fielder’s head.” (RELATED: Daily Caller Takes Heritage Foundation To Pound Town In Softball Season Opener)
Things were quiet until the 5th, when the FedSocs put up another run in the top of the inning before the Callers exploded for 4 more in the bottom half. Mitola ended up a home run away from the cycle, and Daily Caller News Foundation Reporting Fellow Wallace “Wall-E” White laced a triple in his third at bat. Senior Editor Amber Duke added three hits on the day, including a hammered line-drive double past the lawyers’ left-center fielder. Chief Cartoonist Avery Long added a line drive single of her own in her outfield debut.
The combination of Operations Coordinator Lucas Alonso, Reporter Rob McGreevy and Visiting Sporting Fellow Breccan Thies combined for 4 hits from the “Boy 8” spot of the lineup. Intern Ellie, Intern Daisy, and Intern Tayte made season debuts to supplement Intern Reagan and Intern Sally holding down the “Girl 3” spot.
The Caller defense was the real standout, giving up only 2 runs through the first 6 innings before a garbage time 7th. Fans have taken to referring to White, Kenny and Inganamort the “Border Wall” in the outfield.
With the win, the Callers improved to 2-0 on the season. They’ll look to keep the victories rolling with a major showdown against the always-strong American Enterprise Institute this week.
