Dan Turrentine frustrated that fellow Democrats turn blind eye to people who attack ICE

Former Democratic Party strategist Dan Turrentine appeared on Fox News Friday to say he’s frustrated that party members don’t criticize agitators who hinder and obstruct U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers as they try to do their jobs.

Organized activist groups, including the Ventura County chapter of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) and VC Defensa, encouraged protesters to confront ICE during a chaotic immigration raid at a cannabis farm in Camarillo, Calif., where a man allegedly opened fire on federal agents. During an appearance on “Hannity,” Turrentine specifically criticized Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s silence on the issue.

“One of the things that’s frustrating as a Democrat is that there’s no criticism of people attacking and impeding ICE. We have this problem here in New York with the mayoral candidate kind of saying that ‘Oh, the police are the problem,’” Turrentine said.

Turrentine said the party failed to take a firm stance against those who obstruct law enforcement’s ability to carry out their duties.

“Again, I go back to common sense, like we can’t have these images or just the reality of people attacking and impeding ICE officers and as a party just whistling past it. And going and talking about, you know, ‘Oh, he ought to stay out of here, and it’s just some people picking in a farm,’” Turrentine said. “Again, the public won’t even hear us on that conversation.”

Federal agents discovered 10 minors, including eight unaccompanied, working illegally at a Camarillo farm, prompting an investigation into potential child labor, Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott said Thursday on X. Democrats quickly condemned the raid, claiming it unfairly targeted innocent migrants, while ignoring ICE’s findings.

California faced escalating violence at anti-ICE protests, fueled by groups like the PSL, which used online platforms to incite outrage over local immigration raids and organized protests in Los Angeles in early June. The riots that followed lasted for several days, resulting in hundreds of arrests, fires, vandalism, and the deployment of National Guard troops.

The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the alleged shooter, according to a post on X. This incident follows two separate shootings targeting law enforcement at federal immigration facilities in Texas earlier in July. ICE previously reported a nearly 700% increase in assaults on its agents.
