Deep Dem ties revealed of judge who blocked Trump from defunding sanctuary cities: report

The Obama-appointed judge who ruled on Thursday that the Trump administration cannot defund sanctuary cities and counties reportedly has deep ties to the Democrat Party.

U.S. District Court Judge William Orrick ruled that President Donald Trump’s orders instructing his administration to withhold federal money from sanctuary jurisdictions violate the Constitution’s separation of powers principles, the Spending Clause, and the Fifth and 10th Amendments.

He specifically wrote that the orders are “unconstitutionally vague and violate due process” and “impose coercive condition intended to commandeer local officials into enforcing federal immigration practices and law.”

He added that “the threat to withhold funding causes them irreparable injury in the form of budgetary uncertainty, deprivation of constitutional rights, and undermining trust between the Cities and Counties and the communities they serve.”

It should come as no surprise that Orrick, who was appointed to his position in 2012, has throughout his life donated a whopping $113,600 to Democrat candidates and committees, according to Fox News.

Some of the Democrats he’s donated to include former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

In 2008, four years before Obama appointed him to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, Orrick donated twice to the Obama Victory Fund — $2,300 the first time, and $28,500 the second time.

“He has also contributed a total of $53,500 to the Democratic National Committee and made a $3,000 donation to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and a $2,000 donation to the Iowa Democratic Party,” Fox News notes.

Orrick also reportedly served as co-chair of the Bay Area Lawyers to Elect John Kerry from 2003 to 2004 and as co-chair of the Bay Area Lawyers to Elect Barack Obama 2006-2008.

“In 2009, he introduced then-California district attorney candidate [Kamala] Harris at a campaign fundraiser in San Francisco,” according to Fox News. “Orrick has also stumped for Obama and Kerry at several events dating back to 2003.”

Critics are now calling for Orrick’s head on account of his obvious left-wing political activism:

The plaintiffs, meanwhile, were pleased.

“At a time when we continue to see tremendous federal overreach, the Court’s ruling affirms that local governments can serve their mission and maintain trust with the communities they care for,” Tony LoPresti,  counsel for Santa Clara County in California, said in a statement.

This isn’t Orrick’s first time interfering with the Trump administration’s agenda, particularly as it relates to illegal immigration. Eight years ago, in November of 2017, Orrick blocked the Trump administration from defunding sanctuary jurisdictions for the first time.

“The defunding provision instructs the Attorney General and the Secretary to do something that only Congress has the authority to do – place new conditions on federal funds,” he wrote in his ruling, as reported at the time by NPR.

The administration wasn’t pleased by the ruling.

“The District Court exceeded its authority today when it barred the President from instructing his cabinet members to enforce existing law,” then-Department of Justice spokesperson Devin O’Malley said. “The Justice Department will vindicate the President’s lawful authority to direct the executive branch.”

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson originally exposed Orrick back in 2017:
