Deion Sanders Ratchets Up NIL Era, Announces New System That Will Fine Colorado Players For Violations

Coach Prime just turned accountability into dollars and cents for the Colorado Buffaloes.

The penalties include a $2,500 fine for missing practice entirely and a $500 fine for showing up late. Prime laid out the complete list of violations and corresponding fines during his squad’s introductory meeting following the close of the transfer portal.

• No show practice: $2,500
• No show meeting or film session: $2,000
• No show strength & conditioning: $1,500
• No show treatment: $1,500
• Late to strength & conditioning: $1,000
• Late to treatment: $1,000
• Late to practice: $500
• Late to meeting or film session: $400

Additionally, Buffaloes players face fines of up to $2,500 for violations of team rules and as much as $5,000 for public or social media misconduct, with the exact amount determined by the severity of the infraction.

The new system arrives as Colorado integrates 41 newcomers acquired through the NCAA transfer portal, along with early enrollees from the 2026 recruiting class. Under Sanders’ leadership, the Buffs have consistently been an active program in the portal, and this offseason followed the same aggressive pattern. That influx, however, came at the cost of 34 departures from last season’s roster.
