The upcoming season of a long-running reality competition show will feature several interesting cast members, including a top staffer for a Democratic congresswoman.
Alex Moore, retiring Democratic Illinois Rep. Jan Schakowsky’s communications director, is one of 18 “castaways” set to appear on the 49th season of “Survivor,” according to Inside Survivor. In a trailer for the season featured on Entertainment Weekly, Moore is seen saying, “I work on Capitol Hill and I think that has prepared me for Survivor.”
Moore suggested his strategy is also linked to his current job because, as a communications director “one of [his] favorite pastimes is kissing butt,” according to the season trailer.

Another Democratic Hill Staffer was voted off the Island in last fall’s ‘Survivor’ season 47. Former Obama Speechwriter Jon Lovett was the first person voted out by the Gata team, according to NBC News. Lovett is well known as a co-host of the left-wing podcast, Pod Save America.
Jeff Probst, the program’s longtime host and showrunner, calls the season’s group of contestants “likable and quirky.”
Other “castaways” set to appear on the show include a man introducing himself in the trailer as “the man, the myth, the legend R-I-Z-G-O-D, Riz God, baby” and a woman who describes her plan to embody a mermaid who can “lure people in with [her] words, and before they know it, they’re drowning.” Another contestant describes herself as a cutthroat journalist who can easily “pulverise these suckers.” A law enforcement officer’s strategy involves “run[ing] to the chaos.”
The season’s competitors will have to contend with “a Fijian summer so sweltering it feels like the jungle is breathing on you,” according to Probst.
While season 49 was filmed between April and May in Fiji, according to Screen Rant, ‘Survivor’ 49 is not yet a confirmed part of CBS’s Fall 2025 lineup.
Schakowsky announced in a press release on May 5th that she will not seek reelection at the end of this term. Her statement came just over a month after a prominent left-wing social media influencer declared her intention to run for her seat.
