Florida Senate Minority Leader Jason Pizzo has officially severed ties with the Democratic Party and is registering as an independent, citing widespread disillusionment with partisan politics and political consultants, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.
Pizzo made the announcement on the Senate floor and confirmed that he had sent his party change documents via FedEx to the Broward County Supervisor of Elections. The paperwork is expected to be processed by 8:00 a.m. the following day.

Pizzo, known as one of the more moderate voices in Florida’s Democrat ranks, took direct aim at both political parties—particularly his own—during his remarks.

“Our constituents are craving practical leaders, not political hacks,” Pizzo said in his floor speech, signaling frustration with what he sees as a system driven by political gamesmanship and not by solutions.
In his written statement, Pizzo expanded on his motivations for leaving the Democratic Party, portraying it as consumed by special interests, political consultants, and self-serving behavior.

“We are entrusted to be guided by our conscience, and while I suppose it’s easier in theory than it is in application, even my worst detractors have no valid claim that I can be bullied, that I can be bought, or even borrowed for a special interest.”
He invoked his family as part of his reasoning, stating, “I am my father’s son, even in his death. I am my mother’s son, while she is still alive. I will not miss another one of her birthdays.”

Concluding his statement, Pizzo said, “I will return to who I was when I became a young man—independent: independent in thought, in my passion, and in my conscience, not consultants.”
Pizzo’s departure represents a significant blow to Florida Democrats. As Senate Minority Leader, his decision to leave the party underscores ongoing internal tensions within the caucus and dissatisfaction with the direction of Democratic leadership at the state level.
The announcement follows growing frustrations among voters and lawmakers alike over the increasing influence of political consultants, national agendas, and special interest groups within state legislatures.

As of now, Pizzo has not indicated whether he intends to align with any existing political organization or caucus in the Florida Senate, or if he plans to run for another office in the future.
His decision could signal a broader realignment underway in Florida politics as moderate and disillusioned voices seek alternatives outside the traditional two-party system.
