A new poll conducted by Insider Advantage shows strong public support for President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard in response to the ongoing riots in Los Angeles, even as Democrat leaders continue to oppose the move.
According to the poll, 59 percent of respondents said they support Trump’s deployment of National Guard forces to help law enforcement deal with unrest tied to immigration enforcement operations.
Only 39 percent of those surveyed said they opposed the action, giving the President a net approval of +20 points on the issue.

The deployment comes in the wake of widespread protests and violent demonstrations that began after federal agents initiated a series of immigration enforcement actions in Los Angeles.
As unrest escalated, President Trump authorized the deployment of National Guard personnel to assist local and federal authorities with maintaining order and supporting arrest operations.

Despite the poll numbers, California Governor Gavin Newsom has continued to oppose the National Guard’s involvement.
Newsom recently filed an emergency request with a federal judge to block the use of the National Guard in immigration-related arrests, but the request was denied.
The governor’s legal challenge was met with criticism from opponents who pointed to what they described as a double standard.
Newsom lost in court. Trump can federalize the National Guard under Title 10 without the Governor’s approval.

In 2021, following the events of January 6, Newsom deployed 1,000 California National Guard troops to protect government buildings and what he described as “critical infrastructure, including the State Capitol.”

The recent polling also shows that Trump’s decision is drawing support from across party lines.
While 85 percent of Republican respondents said they approved of the deployment, 56 percent of independents and 37 percent of Democrats also said they supported the move.
The poll results suggest that a majority of voters view the deployment as a necessary step to restore order in Los Angeles, where law enforcement agencies have reported an increase in violent confrontations, property damage, and interference with federal operations.
In several incidents, protesters were seen throwing projectiles at law enforcement officers and obstructing the arrest of individuals targeted in federal immigration operations.
The National Guard’s involvement has focused on securing areas impacted by demonstrations and supporting local authorities in crowd control and logistics.
Officials have not disclosed how long the deployment will last but have indicated that the National Guard will remain in place as long as necessary to assist with restoring public safety.
President Trump has defended the move in public remarks, stating that the federal government has a duty to uphold immigration laws and maintain order in communities affected by violent protests.
“We will not be deterred. And the mob in Los Angeles or anywhere else will not succeed. They don’t even have a little chance,” he said earlier this week.
President Trump: “I was elected with a mandate from the people to RESTORE the sovereign borders of the United States and our country itself. We will not be deterred. And the mob in Los Angeles or anywhere else will not succeed. They don’t even have a little chance.”

The Insider Advantage poll was conducted nationally and included a representative sample of likely voters.
The margin of error was not specified in the public release of the findings.
As the situation in Los Angeles continues to unfold, federal and state officials remain divided on the role of military support in immigration-related law enforcement actions.
The Department of Homeland Security has not issued any changes to its enforcement plans in the region, and the National Guard deployment remains active.
