DHS Confirms ICE Agent Suffered Internal Bleeding After Being Struck by Vehicle in Minneapolis [WATCH]

A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who fatally shot a woman during a confrontation in Minneapolis last week suffered internal bleeding to his torso after being struck by her vehicle, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed Wednesday, contradicting earlier claims by city officials that the injuries were minor, as reported by Fox News.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin confirmed to Fox News that ICE agent Jonathan Ross sustained internal bleeding after being hit by a vehicle driven by Renee Nicole Good. The extent of the bleeding was not immediately clear.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem previously said Ross was transported to a hospital for treatment following the incident on Jan. 7 and was released later the same day.

The updated medical information comes after Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey publicly downplayed the severity of Ross’ injuries during remarks to reporters last Friday.

Cellphone video of the encounter, which has circulated widely online, has sparked intense debate among elected officials, law enforcement leaders, and local residents.

Federal officials have stated that Good drove her vehicle toward Ross, prompting him to fire his weapon in self-defense.

Authorities described her actions as “an act of domestic terrorism” and said Good had been following and harassing federal officers earlier that day during an immigration enforcement operation.

Vice President JD Vance addressed the controversy Friday in a post on X, pushing back against claims that the agent was not in danger.

“Many of you have been told this law enforcement officer wasn’t hit by a car, wasn’t being harassed, and murdered an innocent woman,” Vance wrote. “The reality is that his life was endangered and he fired in self-defense.”

Frey rejected that assessment, calling any self-defense argument “garbage.”

Several Democratic officials and some Minneapolis residents have labeled the shooting a murder and are calling for Ross to be prosecuted.

Others have questioned whether federal agents should have been operating in the area at the time of the encounter.

Federal authorities, however, maintain that Ross was performing his duties and responded to a direct threat.

DHS officials have said the investigation remains ongoing and emphasized that initial claims minimizing the agent’s injuries were inaccurate.

The confrontation and its aftermath have intensified already-strained tensions between Minneapolis city leadership and federal immigration authorities, particularly as ICE operations continue to draw criticism from local Democratic officials.

As of Wednesday, no charges had been announced against Ross. Federal and state investigators are continuing to review video footage, witness statements, and forensic evidence related to the shooting.

The Department of Homeland Security has not released additional details about Ross’ medical condition or whether he remains on duty.

The case remains under active investigation, and officials have indicated that further updates are expected as additional evidence is reviewed.
