Secretary Noem was appointed by President Trump to lead the Department of Homeland Security following the 2024 election.
Since assuming office, she has overseen numerous policy shifts aimed at restoring enforcement priorities and tightening border security, including expanded support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations and a return to detention-focused immigration processing protocols.
Noem, the former Governor of South Dakota, has been an active member of President Trump’s cabinet, frequently participating in border security briefings and coordinating with state and local law enforcement agencies.
Her tenure has included a renewed emphasis on immigration enforcement and an expansion of joint operations between DHS and other federal departments.
Officials have not released additional information regarding Noem’s condition or the cause of the allergic reaction.
DHS has not indicated whether the Secretary will temporarily delegate her responsibilities during recovery.
Supporters and administration allies continue to issue public messages of encouragement, with several Trump cabinet members sharing posts urging Americans to pray for her recovery.
