President Trump on Monday panned Sen. Chris Coons for saying the White House is contemplating an agreement with Iran comparable to President Obama’s nuclear deal with the Islamic republic.
“Tell phony Democrat Senator Chris Coons that I am not offering Iran ANYTHING, unlike Obama, who paid them $Billions under the stupid ‘road to a Nuclear Weapon JCPOA (which would now be expired!),” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He went on to say, “nor am I even talking to them since we OBLITERATED their Nuclear Facilities.”
In his first term, Mr. Trump tore up the Obama administration’s nuclear deal with Iran, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPOA.
The Washington Times reached out to Mr. Coons for comment.
Mr. Coons, Delaware Democrat, said on “Fox News Sunday” that Mr. Trump was eyeing an Obama-style deal.
“I’ll just note that President Trump, by press accounts, is now moving towards negotiation and offering Iran a deal that looks somewhat similar to the Iran deal that was offered by Obama,” Mr. Coons said. “Tens of billions of dollars of incentives and reduced sanctions in exchange for abandoning their nuclear program.”
Mr. Trump, who negotiated the ceasefire between Israel and Iran last week, has disputed press reports about him making deals with Iran.
“Who in the Fake News Media is the SleazeBag saying that ‘President Trump wants to give Iran $30 Billion to build non-military Nuclear facilities,” he said Friday on social media. “Never heard of this ridiculous idea. It’s just another HOAX put out by the Fake News in order to demean. These people are SICK!!!”
