Downing Street has insisted that rape gang inquiry is not in crisis. That’s despite social worker Annie Hudson withdrawing from the running to be the chairman of the inquiry this morning over “recent media coverage”. Meaning there’s just one candidate left…
When asked if the inquiry had already fallen apart before its launch, Starmer’s spokesman said:
“No. We are working with victims from across the country. Our priority is getting it right. We are getting on with the job with setting up the inquiry. The terms of the inquiry will be established when we appoint a chair. We haven’t set out the chair role yet.”
Meanwhile, two rape gang survivors have quit the inquiry panel over a ‘toxic’ environment, and the government still doesn’t have a planned timetable for the inquiry’s launch. No wonder when they haven’t even set out the chairman’s role yet…
UPDATE: A third victim has quit the inquiry panel.
