Several individuals were arrested Friday following a day of demonstrations in downtown Los Angeles, where anti-ICE protesters clashed with local law enforcement, federal agents, and members of the U.S. military.

The incidents occurred after weeks of organized protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and deportation policies.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the protests included multiple separate demonstrations across the downtown area.

“There were multiple arrests today during several different demonstrations,” the department posted on X.
While police said most of the day’s protests were peaceful, tensions escalated into the evening hours.
“Most were peaceful, but once again, as the evening approached, outside agitators began to cause issues,” LAPD stated.

Prior to the arrests, LAPD reported that demonstrators had been “confronting Federal Protective Security Personnel and National Guard members.”

In response to the confrontations, federal personnel deployed “less lethal munitions,” which authorities noted “may cause pain and discomfort.”
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which had a significant presence on the ground, took the lead in declaring the gathering an unlawful assembly.

The protests originated outside Los Angeles City Hall on Spring Street at approximately 9:30 a.m., according to local news outlet KCAL.
Demonstrators marched a 1.5-mile route through the downtown area throughout the day.
The Trump administration had previously authorized the deployment of National Guard troops and U.S. Marines to the city in response to the growing protests, despite opposition from California Governor Gavin Newsom.
The move drew national attention and prompted criticism from state and local officials who argued that military involvement was not necessary.
By Friday evening, authorities issued a dispersal order after tensions escalated.

According to LAPD’s post at 7:17 p.m. local time, the demonstration was officially shut down, and the crowd largely dispersed.
Federal Protective Services, part of DHS, took point in managing the security response.
Their presence has been more visible in recent weeks as demonstrations against ICE enforcement have grown in size and intensity, particularly in major metropolitan areas like Los Angeles.
Protests began last month following a series of high-profile ICE raids and deportation actions.
Organizers have called for the complete dismantling of the immigration enforcement agency, a stance that has continued to gain traction among progressive activists in California and beyond.
