Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, has come out with a very lackluster explanation for her bad behavior.
The bad behavior involves deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, whom Ferguson (known more commonly as Fergie) publicly denounced during an “Evening Standard” interview on March 7, 2011.
“I abhor pedophilia and any sexual abuse of children and know that this was a gigantic error of judgment on my behalf,” she said at the time, referencing her prior friendship with Epstein.
“I am just so contrite I cannot say,” she continued, promising to “have nothing ever to do with Jeffrey Epstein ever again.”
The problem is that it’s just been learned that seven weeks after Ferguson publicly denounced Epstein, she sent him an email in which she called him a “supreme friend” and essentially apologized for trash-talking him.

“I know you feel hellaciously let down by me from what you were either told or read, and I must humbly apologise to you and your heart for that,” she wrote, according to The Guardian. “You have always been a steadfast, generous, and supreme friend to me and my family.”
“As you know, I did not, absolutely not, say the ‘P word’ about you …,” she added, referencing pedophilia.
In the email, she also alleged that “she had denounced him in the media to protect her work as the figurehead of children’s charities,” according to The Daily Beast.
The backlash to this email has been severe, with multiple British charities ending their affiliation with Ferguson:
One of them is Julia’s House, a children’s hospice.
“Following the information shared this weekend on the Duchess of York’s correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein, Julia’s House has taken the decision that it would be inappropriate for her to continue as a patron of the charity,” the hospice said in a statement.
Meanwhile, The Daily Beast notes that “[q]uestions will now be asked if Ferguson can hang on to her role as patron of Prevent Breast Cancer, a role closely tied to her own health journey after her 2023 cancer diagnosis, and her decades-long patronage of the Teenage Cancer Trust.”
But Ferguson did herself no favors by finally breaking her silence and issuing a supposed explanation for her behavior.
Her spokesperson told The Telegraph that she sent the fawning email because Epstein had previously vowed to “destroy her” in a “Hannibal Lecter-style” phone call made to him, the spokesperson.
“People don’t understand how terrible Epstein was,” spokesperson James Henderson said. “I can remember everything about that call. It was a chilling call, and I’m surprised anybody was ever friends with him, given the way he talked to me.”
“He said he would destroy the York family, and he was quite clear on that. He said he would destroy me. He wasn’t shouting. He had a Hannibal Lecter-type voice. It was very cold and calm and really menacing and nasty,” Henderson added.
According to The Telegraph, Henderson further “said it was understandable that the Duchess had subsequently fired off the email, expressing her regret at offending Epstein, given the menace of his threat to ruin her life and that of her family.”
Uh huh…
“He [Epstein] was very, very clear,” Henderson continued. “He said, ‘I will destroy the family’. The pressure she was put under to protect her family must have been huge. I am sure there were legal actions.”
“And this was long before the Duke’s life had been ruined by his association with Epstein. It was 14 years ago, and everyone will do what they have to do to protect their family,” he added.
Many have doubts, especially given Fergie’s history of bad behavior.
“In 2010, she was caught in a News of the World sting offering access to her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, in return for $615,000,” The Daily Beast notes. “She was filmed accepting a $49,000 cash down payment and promising to ‘open doors’ to Andrew.”
