A heated exchange unfolded on ABC’s daytime talk show “The View” when former co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck pushed back after fellow panelist Sunny Hostin criticized President Donald Trump and referenced Hasselbeck’s support for him, as reported by Decider.
The exchange occurred during a discussion about the United States bombing Iran, a topic that quickly led to a tense back-and-forth between the two hosts.
Hostin began by criticizing President Trump’s actions, arguing they conflicted with expectations she had about his leadership following the 2024 election.

“I thought this was going to be the president of peace, I thought this president wanted to win a Nobel Peace Prize for peace,” Hostin said during the segment. “That is not what I’m seeing. I am not seeing America first.”
Hostin then shifted her remarks toward Hasselbeck, who is filling in on the show while co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin is on maternity leave.
Hasselbeck, a longtime conservative voice on the program, previously served as a permanent co-host on “The View” from 2003 until 2013.
“I think people that voted for Trump – I was not one of them, I think you were – those people wanted America first,” Hostin continued.

Hasselbeck immediately cut in before Hostin could continue her statement, confirming her support for the president.
“I proudly voted for Trump,” Hasselbeck said. “Because the alternative was not great, and we would absolutely be under the wrong power.”
The exchange escalated as multiple hosts began speaking at once.
As the conversation became increasingly heated, longtime moderator Whoopi Goldberg stepped in to bring the segment to a halt and send the program to a commercial break.
When the show returned from the break, the panel continued discussing the United States bombing Iran and the broader debate surrounding the decision.
The moment marked one of several tense exchanges during Hasselbeck’s first day back on the program as a guest host.
Despite the disagreement that unfolded later in the broadcast, Hasselbeck opened the show on a more conciliatory note when she first joined the panel.
She expressed appreciation for the opportunity to return to the show where she spent a decade as a co-host.
“Civil discourse is not dead! We may have differences of opinion, but we love each other, and we’re stronger for it,” Hasselbeck said at the start of the program.
She also spoke about the value of open discussion between people who disagree politically, suggesting that debate could remain respectful even when views sharply differ.
“We can hold our positions in one hand and each other’s hands in the other, and be able to live as Americans with the freedom that we have, and speak our hearts and minds. We get to do that all week.”
Hasselbeck also acknowledged that strong disagreements might occur during her temporary return to the show.
“It might get a little spicy at times,” she said. “But we do not hate each other. We love each other.”
The on-air exchange between Hostin and Hasselbeck drew attention online as clips from the segment circulated across social media platforms following the broadcast.
Hasselbeck’s appearance this week marks her first extended return to the ABC daytime program in years, bringing back one of the show’s most outspoken conservative voices during a period of continued political debate both on television and across the country.
