Elmo issued a statement Tuesday, two days after the ‘Sesame Street’ character’s X account was hacked.
“On Sunday, Elmo’s X account was briefly hacked by an outside party, in spite of the security measures in place,” the statement read. “We strongly condemn the abhorrent antisemitic and racist content, and the account has since been secured.” The Sesame Workshop emphasized that Elmo’s account was compromised and the offensive messages that were shared were not issued by them.

The statement continued, “These posts in no way reflect the values of Sesame Workshop or Sesame Street, and no one at the organization was involved.”
The children’s educational organization quickly restored security to Elmo’s X account following the breach, but did not disclose any details about pending investigations into the incident, or specific security measures that were implemented following the ordeal.

A slew of posts appeared on Elmo’s X account in quick succession Sunday. Some displayed antisemitic messaging, and others targeted President Donald Trump by demanding the release of Jeffrey Epstein’s files. The hackers also made derogatory comments about Trump and his connections to Epstein.
Representatives from the Sesame Workshop called the posts “disgusting,” and told Elmo’s 650,000 followers that an “unknown hacker” was behind the offensive content, according to BBC.
