Finally! Some common sense in England!
England‘s sports governing body for the sport of soccer has issued a ban on transgender (biological male) athletes participating in the women’s category, doing so Thursday following a ruling in the UK Supreme Court that declared a woman as someone who was born a biological female.
The change on the policy was announced Thursday by the Football Association (FA), branding the topic as “a complex subject.”
“As the governing body of the national sport, our role is to make football accessible to as many people as possible, operating within the law and international football policy defined by UEFA and FIFA,” started the statement. “Our current policy, which allows transgender women to participate in the women’s game, was based on this principle and supported by expert legal advice.” (RELATED: Transgender Athlete In Girls’ High School Softball Exposed After Originally Concealing Sex From Teammates)
Before the change, the prior policy had trans athletes able to compete in female soccer if they showed a “blood serum testosterone maintained at below 5.0 nmol/L” for at least a 12-month period before participating.
“This is a complex subject, and our position has always been that if there was a material change in law, science, or the operation of the policy in grassroots football then we would review it and change it if necessary,” read the statement from FA.
“The Supreme Court’s ruling on the 16 April means that we will be changing our policy. Transgender women will no longer be able to play in women’s football in England, and this policy will be implemented from 1 June 2025.”
The Football Association has confirmed that transgender women will no longer be able to play in women’s football in England from June 1.
