ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith Warns Dems About Mamdani’s Socialist Agenda: “That Ain’t America” [WATCH]

ESPN host Stephen A. Smith issued a sharp warning to the Democratic Party on Monday, stating that if they align themselves with New York City’s presumptive mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, it could cost them elections at every level of government, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

Mamdani, a self-identified democratic socialist and current New York state assemblyman, has proposed sweeping left-wing policies during his campaign, including government-run grocery stores, a $30 minimum wage, free public transportation, and universal childcare.

Speaking on The Stephen A. Smith Show, the longtime sports broadcaster addressed the growing enthusiasm for Mamdani among progressives and warned of the political consequences of embracing his platform.

“Ladies and gentlemen, let me be very, very clear: If the Democratic Party becomes the likes of Zohran Mamdani — who, by the way, I like, not trying to throw any shade on him or anything like that — but if the Democratic Party becomes him, you have no chance,” Smith said.

“You have no chance — on a national basis in terms of the presidency. In Senate seats, seats in the House — you have no chance. You have no chance. I want to be very, very clear about that.”

Smith emphasized that while some Americans may support isolated socialist candidates, Mamdani’s overall platform is not aligned with national values.

“You might have a democratic socialist sprinkled here and there — but that ain’t what America is!” he said. “America is about capitalism! America is about dollars and cents! America is about an economy, a flourishing economy, okay!?”

He continued: “And you know what it’s not about!? Free stuff.”

Mamdani, who represents a district in Queens, has gained traction among progressive circles in New York, where his policies have drawn comparisons to other left-wing figures like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

His campaign has positioned him as a champion of redistributive economics and government expansion.

Smith’s comments reflect growing concern among moderate Democrats and independents about the direction of the party as it faces increasing pressure from its far-left flank.

The push toward socialist-style governance, according to critics, risks alienating working-class and middle-income voters who remain skeptical of such approaches.

While Smith stopped short of endorsing a particular candidate or party, his remarks highlight the political risks Democrats may face heading into the next election cycle if Mamdani’s model gains national momentum.
